Mad Dogs and Squeaky Toys

The pups are on a rampage, having pulled apart a stuffed animal and having come up with the squeaky part. Jay runs through the house with the squeaky in his mouth, destroying the big brother dignity that we all praised until now. We heard today that there is another IG out there who may be our new little one's brother; he (the unkown brother) has a broken leg. We are not fostering this guy but also can't help but wonder who will. The closer I get to these guys, the more I worry about the ones who don't have a home. We're looking for a name for the new little guy. I like "Andy" or "Dominoe". He looks like an Andy. He's very young and has a baby face and wiggles around a lot. We're teaching him how to go to bed in that cute way that Jay has...burrowing under the covers and positioning himself in a circle like a good dog. He wants to jump and play and wiggle. He's a precious little guy and we'd be happy to send him to you free of charge. Just kidding.

Blaze Watch

Our little foster dog, Blaze, had his first vet visit this afternoon. He weighed in at 9 pounds. He has ALL of his baby teeth, which, according to Doc Phillips, means he is somewhere between 12-14 weeks old. This means he's going to be a Biggie Iggy, I think. He's a healthy little guy, which is very good news. Potty training is going along very well. He had a little memory lapse tonight, but i think he was so excited playing with JayJ and Bea, that he forgot himself. He's really only had a couple of accidents.

Meanwhile, there's a report that there's another Port Townsend IG that's shown up at a vet's office with a broken leg. He's young, like Blazey, and there is some speculation that they might be litter mates. He needs a foster home! The vet will operate on his leg. We're hoping for more details about mid week. Maybe we'll even get more details about Blaze's beginnings.

No new pics tonight, but I'll post more soon. He and JayJ are just too darn cute!

Jay J and Bea plus One

Saturday morning we took a beautiful ferry ride to Kingston to pick up our little foster IG, "Blaze". He's truly a puppy, probably about 5 or 6 months of age. What a cutie. He and JayJ are working it out; Bea watched from afar at first, but now she's jumped into the mix and is having a ball. Kathy & Peggy are totally entertained and wondering what we're going to do when we go back to work full time. The pack votes "No" on that idea, although they have mentioned that they would like to continue to be fed.

Here are the boys recharging their batteries for a few minutes. This is a bit of rare occurrence as JayJ isn't wild about snuggling up with Blazey quite yet. Here's a shot of Bea observing the new guy from the mantle.

Bea Bo Peep

It's amazing to me that Bea could have what amounts to a hysterectomy and be roaring to go a day later. Alas, we kept the romping to a minimum for a few days and she's back to her normal antics. After being nearly clawed to death trying to 'pill' our little darling kitten, I learned that kitties like treats--just like dogs. Now she sits quietly while I pop the pill in her mouth. She dutifully swallows, and I pay for her cooperation with a wild salmon treat. Yum yum! Good kitty!

The Growing Menagerie

We must be crazy...but we've decided to answer a request from the Northwest IG Rescue this afternoon to foster a little 6 month old IG. Since he had no identification, he's been given the temporary name 'Blaze' which is very fitting. He apparentloy showed up at an elderly woman's home in Port Townsend and she turned him over to the humane society. After a 5 day hold the humane society turned him over to temporary foster care ( Greyt Greyhound foster home offered to pick him up) waiting to be placed by the IG Rescue.

Stay tuned . . . He'll arrive over the weekend. For now, here are some pictures.

Menagerie Report

Things here are cooking along. Bea is recovering from her surgery, which means that she is home and wearing a cone. She looks like Little BoPeep. Jay is careful with her and Taylor as usual won't have anything to do with her, although hisses a little more reverently. The best news is that Bea is not yowling and Jay is not rolling her. For awhile there, it was so chaotic and sadistic that I thought I was living on the set of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.

Jay has been fitted for his winter coat, which is made from a fabric that will not allow him to heat up or get cold. I'm thinking that the fabric could be a miracle for the thousands (used to be millions) of us who work in offices across America where there is no heat and then tons of heat, the cycles on and off, the layers on and off, and the misery level high. What if we wore clothes made from this fabric and our clothes were regulating our temperatures rather than running behind each other fiddling with the thermostat? American office workers are too hot (then too cold) and if our slacks and tops can help, why not? More on this later.

Taylor is voting for Obama because he is stable. She wants a president who is not a maverick and who answers the questions and goes right ahead and answers them (because he can).

We are family

I have been remiss in updating the blog (and chastised for it), so I am here this afternoon to add a couple of pics and post an update. Peggy and I have been busy looking for jobs and all that entails--but not too busy to snap a couple of photos of the two in action. Peggy happened upon them yesterday sitting in her writing chair grooming each other. I'm afraid I didn't quite capture the true essence of cuteness, but I tried nonetheless.

Beatrice has come into heat (oh joy) but has an appointment to be spayed this coming Friday. Vets like to wait until kittens are at least 6 months old...she is just a little over that now. There's no peace and quiet in the West-Ringwood household, at least not until after next Friday. Who knew cats had so many vocalizations.

That's it from the 'hood for now. Enjoy the pics.
